From Monday 23 March 2020, our school is closed except to the children of key workers and vulnerable children.

It is important to stress that if children can safely stay at home they should do so. The Government guidelines are clear that the closure of schools is in place to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus. With fewer children travelling to school the risk of spreading the virus to vulnerable groups is reduced.

The following principles should be applied:

• If it is at all possible for children to be at home, they should be.
• If a child needs specialist support, is vulnerable or has a parent who is a key worker, then educational provision will be available for them.
• Parents should not rely for childcare upon those who are advised to be in the stringent social distancing category such as older people, friends, or family members with underlying health conditions.
• Parents should also do everything they can to ensure children are not mixing socially in a way which can continue to spread the virus. They should observe the same social distancing principles as adults.
• Residential special schools, boarding schools and special settings will continue to care for children wherever possible.

Vulnerable children include children who are supported by social care, those with safeguarding and welfare needs, including children with a child-in-need plan or child protection plans, looked after children, young carers, disabled children and those with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP).

Wolfreton Learning Hub – For the children of key workers and vulnerable children

Wolfreton Learning Hub is our on-site provision for the children of key workers and vulnerable children.

Before schools closed we surveyed all of our parents and carers to identify who would need to take advantage of this provision.  Each week we contact those parents and carers whose children have attended previously to enable them to secure a place at for the following week.  Staffing is carefully planned to ensure that whilst supporting this provision, we are minimising the number of people on site to reduce risks at all times.  It is therefore essential that all young people are booked in in advance.  Please contact enquiries@wolfreton.co.uk for further information.

Additional information

• The academy opens to children attending Wolfreton Learning Hub from 8 am for a normal school day of 8:35 am – 3:10 pm.
• Young people attending Wolfreton Learning Hub should wear their school uniform.
• At this time Chartwells, our catering provider, are able to offer a hot meal to those attending Wolfreton Learning Hub.  We are able to accept both cashless and at this time cash payment if this is required.  Young people in receipt of free school meals will receive their meal free of charge.
• Young people will not follow their usual timetable, a bespoke mixed age timetable has been devised.  This will include time to follow the online Home Learning set for all young people.
