Safeguarding your child online
During the closure period, your child will likely be online more than ever and it is important that we provide support to enable you to support them. This page provides links to websites that can support parents by providing:
- information on social networks, apps and games
- advice on risks and how to discuss these with children and young people
- information on safe and responsible use of technology
- advice on how to report issues
Young people or parents should raise any concerns whilst online. As well as reporting issues to the school, organisations below also provide practical support:

The NSPCC and O2 Net Aware Guide provides information on popular social networks, apps and games for example Snap Chat, and both House Party and Zoom which have recently been in the press. By entering the name of a social network, app or game into their search box, you can access a parent guide and also a simple expert overview of any potential risks that they have identified.

ThinkUKnow is an education programme from the National Crime Agency’s CEOP Command.
Their website includes a range of information and resources for parents and carers to support online safety, as well as advice on specific concerns which may arise and how to report these.

Well Being and Mental Health Support
During the school year our House and wider pastoral team are on-hand to support our young people. At this time, with the current closure related to COVID-19, we are still able to provide pastoral support albeit in an adapted format.

Young Minds is a UK charity for children and young people’s mental health.
The website includes a section on Coronavirus advice and mental health support. It includes Tips and guidance on where you can get support during the pandemic.
Support and advice for parents includes:

Childline is a free, private and confidential service were young people can talk about anything. Currently, due to coronavirus, Childline have made some changes to how they work. For now, you can only speak to a Childline counsellor online or on the phone from 9 am – midnight.

The Parents’ Guide, an organisation that provides parents and carers with the information they needs to help their teenage children, has published a free guide in response to coronavirus. The Parents’ Guide to school closures can be accessed here
East Riding Local Support
School Nurse
The Haltemprice School Nurse and Health Visiting team (ISPHNs) is available for all children aged 0-19 years. They would like to inform all schools in the Haltemprice area that they are still accessible for phone/virtual advice and support at this difficult time, for students, their parents/families/carers.
Their office contact number is 01482 335010. They are able to remotely access any messages left for the team Monday to Friday 9-5, adhering to data protection guidance and maintaining confidentiality at all times.
They have a Facebook page – East Riding Health Visitors & School Nurses-ISPHNs. This page is frequently updated with useful information by the Health Visiting and School Nursing social media team.
They also have a recently launched website. On here children and their families can find lots of very useful information on various topics, with hyperlinks to trusted websites for further advice. The website covers ages 0-19 years. The website address is humberisphn.nhs.uk
Also available to secondary school children is the CHAT HEALTH service. This is a confidential texting service available to students aged 11-19 years. The nurses can provide advice and support via text, the young person does not need to give any personal information should they wish to remain anonymous.
Some young people are aware of this service but a reminder that it is still available Monday to Friday 9-5 even though they are not in school. Students can discuss things such as; self-harm, emotional health and wellbeing, gender identity, healthy eating, drugs, alcohol, sexual health or anything else they have concerns/worries about. The CHAT HEALTH number is 07507 332891.
