Home Learning (Homework)

Vision

Wolfreton School and Sixth Form College believes that homework extends learning beyond the classroom and that homework serves at least one of three purposes: to consolidate learning from a specific lesson or topic, to prepare students for new learning or to independently reflect on their learning from a lesson or topic.

Expectations

Wolfreton School and Sixth Form College expects that homework will be set regularly (as per overview tables) by members of staff as a means of extending learning beyond the classroom. Reading is considered essential to every student’s success and is expected to be carried out in all key stages alongside subject-specific work.

Types of homework

Homework takes a variety of forms as appropriate to the subject and the needs of the students at any given time. As well as book-based activities, students in Key Stage 3 will also work on projects in some subjects and in Year 7 students will carry out self-quizzing homeworks based on Knowledge Organisers. Knowledge Organisers provide an essential tool for all students across Years 7-13 to revise and embed key knowledge for assessments and end of year exams.

Several subjects use online platforms as part of their homework expectations; online platforms include the following and students should not record login details in their planners:

  • GCSEpod
  • SAMlearning
  • ActivLearn (Languages)
  • Tassomai (Science)
  • Sparx Maths
  • Seneca
  • Sparx Reader
  • Ever Learn (PE)

Classroom teachers are responsible for monitoring the completion of homework and giving out house points for excellent homework as well as administering a negative comment if students do not complete their homework or not complete it to an acceptable standard.

Quality Assurance

To quality assure homework effectively, Faculty Leaders within each area of study will conduct quality-assurance checks as part of the whole school quality assurance schedule. A member of SLT will also have responsibility to quality assure the amount of homework set, the quality of set homework and respond to or seek student and parent voice regarding homework.
